Identity ii

In 2007 I exhibited a five photos, self-portrait series of work entitled 'Identity'. It was actually part of a project I did at University for my second year of my Photography BA. After the exhibition I promised myself I would take the project further. The whole concept revolved around physical identity and cosmetics. I decided I wanted to do another five photo series, similar but with something different but still relating to the concept of physical identity and beauty. When I was a GCSE art student, I created a series of paintings of pin-up models with skeletal faces, so I decided to merge the two ideas. I never did get around to doing it - until now.

I was hesitant to do it as this concept is so overdone. I get that. With Lady Gaga and Rick Genest, skeleton face-paint, make-up and tattoos are everywhere. Still, I thought I'd give it a try, even for a bit of fun.

I really like the idea and execution of these. I'd say the last shot, the profile, is probably my favourite shot but I like them all. It's cool to see a continuation of a project like this. I don't do much project work and I'd like to explore it more so this is rather encouraging. Great stuff.
